Muc-Off
X-Lite was started in 1991 by Rex and Marilyn Trimnell. Their first product was a leading edge 'twin corwn' bicycle fork, of which the design rights were sold to Raleigh cycles. X-Lite's first production product was a leading edge lightweight bar end. Rex saw that he could make the world's lightest bar end by combining his unique eye for design and innovative manufacturing techniques. These early bar ends were an instant success. Production was increased from the Trimnell family garage until the moved into a purpose built unit in 1993. X-Lite went on to become the leading UK manufacturer of lightweight MTB components, many other products were developed to create a world beating range of innovative designs which were exported around the world. X-Lite were famed for using exotic materials such as titanium, carbon fibre and metal matrix and also won many national and international races with the likes of Barry Clarke and David Baker. In 1994 X-Lite started working closely with Loctite UK to create a range of mountain bike maintenance products. However, when X-Lite came to test the Loctite cleaner they were not happy with the results, so they set about creating their own brand name and cleaning product which was both safe to use on all parts of a bicycle and the environment - Muc-Off was born! After two years the relationship with Loctite ended as the products were not a sales success (looking back they were simply just ahead of their time), however Muc-Off cleaner was showing signs of success so they kept selling this single product, which, eventually grew into a comprehensive bicycle specific care range.
