How CMS are measuring our Carbon Footprint | CMS Distribution

Written by Sarah Dillon-Leetch | Mar 3, 2023 9:26:05 AM

CMS are calculating our carbon footprint across twelve locations, in eight countries and across three continents.

This is in response to the increasing threats of climate change and the landmark 2015 ‘Paris Agreement’ setting out that global average temperatures should not rise to above 1.5oC pre-industrial levels. Businesses have one of the most important roles to play in reaching these targets and CMS is proud to go above legal requirements of the Streamlined Energy Carbon Reporting (SECR) in the UK to measure its scope 3 emissions.

Scope 3 was essential to CMS for transparency and to avoid greenwashing within this space as we begin to capture the upstream and downstream emissions associated with our value chain. Measuring our scope 1-3 carbon emissions at this scale will enable us to make a significant step towards our decarbonisation goals and set accurate ‘Net Zero’ reduction targets.

We currently report our carbon footprint through a third-party software for the validation of our emissions in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

Target Setting is a key 2023 step to reaching Net Zero emissions as a company, however, in line with the philosophy that “you can't manage, what you can't measure CMS’s initial focus is on getting the correct carbon calculations for our business activity.
