Solar Panel Installation Confirms CMS's Commitment to Lowering Carbon Emissions | CMS Distribution

In March 2023, CMS Distribution installed 100 solar panels in Kiltimagh, County Mayo, our office and warehouse site in the west of Ireland. Throughout the next year, this installation will allow us to generate over 45 thousand kilowatt hours of renewable energy.

As soon as 4 months in, we are already seeing the positive impact of this investment, having consumed over 19,000kWh of renewable electricity generated by the sun. Had fossil fuels generated this energy, it would have produced around 6 tonnes of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of the weight of 5 family cars.

We acknowledge the devastating effects of climate change and recognise this will continue to impact individuals and businesses at a direct level. As part of our initiative to calculate our carbon footprint across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 in twelve locations, across three continents, we’re committing to reducing our impact on the environment and the carbon we emit as a business. The installation of solar panels and the investment into renewable energy is one way that CMS is reducing our Scope 2 carbon emissions and actively preventing carbon production.

CMS aim to be a ‘Glocal’ business meaning we want to maximise local communities and businesses in our operations. When installing solar panels in Kiltimagh, we chose to use PV Energy Ireland – a Mayo based company and local supplier. By using what’s in the community, we are benefiting the local community and supporting the workforce of our town and families.
