CES 2023, the world's most influential tech event, was held in Vegas earlier this month and members of the CMS team were in attendance. We spoke with Fergal Gara, Chief Commercial Officer of CMS, to gain insights and thoughts on his experience at the event. He said, "it was great to get back to CES and see the show back in full force".
Fergal mentioned that energy and energy management were big themes at the show, including power storage and management solutions and new technologies such as solid-state power storage. Another theme was the growth of smart homes, with more vendors in the space, more developed products, and emerging common standards for interoperability. The advancements in automobile technology, including autonomous racing cars, taxis, farm machinery, and electric vehicles, was also a significant theme at the show.
Fergal believes that these technology developments will have a major impact on the future of the tech industry. He highlighted the energy theme as particularly important, with technology advancing even faster to help generate and store power, which will be a big story both at a household and government level. The growth of smart homes will make life easier and more energy-efficient and provide opportunities for retail.
In terms of the impact on retailers, Fergal mentioned that some products may be classified as dangerous goods and may not be suitable for storage in retail stores. However, he sees this as an opportunity for CMS to work closely with retail partners to deliver these products directly to customers.
Finally, Fergal spoke about his personal highlights from CES 2023, specifically getting together with the wider CMS team. Since he joined the company during the pandemic and had not had the opportunity to meet a lot of people in person so, this was a very exciting occasion. When it came to the technology, the power topic was the most interesting for him, as it is an area where CMS is already involved and has room for growth.
