Following its March 2022 release, lets look at some of the features of the new H20N payload for the Matrice 300 RTK. This payload significantly increases what we used to think possible when it comes to low light and night operations. Here are our 5 favourite features:
1.) Starlight Sensors – we couldn’t begin a top 5 features of the H20N without talking about the low light capabilities of this payload due to its starlight sensors. These have a wider aperture and reduced shutter speed than a standard lens, meaning more light can reach the sensor in low light situations! Paired with DJI’s low-light enhancement algorithm, the H20N has completed revolutionised the night-time capabilities of DJI drones.
2.) Dual Radiometric Infrared Thermal - To compliment the power of the starlight sensors featured in both the dual lens of the H20N, the H20N also includes dual thermal sensors. One of these offers a 2x zoom, the other 8x zoom, which means together you can achieve a 32x zoom, significantly increasing the observational distance of these thermal cameras. Not only this, but you can customise the colour palettes assigned to the thermal data based on your mission requirements and visualise and seek a specific band of temperatures. With these increased capabilities, the H20N is the most well-suited payload for night-time operations, regardless of your objective.
3.) Synchronised Split Screen Zoom – Whilst the thermal capacities of this new payload are unprecedented, it’s most powerful when combined with the ordinary visual sensor. Luckily for us DJI have implemented this into the payload, with the drone pilot being able to see through both lens at once. The user can even synchronise zooming between the thermal and starlight cameras, doubling efficiency and offering increased visibility in difficult conditions. Because of these dual lens capabilities and increased flexibility, operators can now make better informed decisions, with increased certainty in a greater range of situations.
4.) Laser Rangefinder – Another great feature of the H20N, which it shared with the H20 and H20T payloads, is the unbelievable Laser Rangefinder these were packed with. This rangefinder has a range from 3-1200m, enabling precise coordinates of a location or an object to a distance of ±1m. Together with the DJI’s advanced sensor fusion algorithms, GPS coordinates of any object can be marked in seconds, along with the distance from the drone and the relative height of the object. This further adds to the H20N’s capacity to operate efficiently in all low conditions.
5.) Classic DJI Durability – Whilst this isn’t a unique feature for the H20N, it’s worth noting that this payload has a rating of IP44, can withstand temperatures from -20 to +50, and weighs in at less than a kilo. This means the H20N easily sits alongside the rest of the DJI line with their impressive commitment to ensuring your drones and payloads remain airborne and entirely functional, regardless of the weather outside, the time of the day, or the application you’re using them for.
With all these amazing features its hard to see why anyone wouldn’t want this payload when they’re operating in low light conditions or at night.
